The North Salem Republican Town Committee celebrates black history month today by honoring Kenneth Paschal, the first Black Republican elected to the Alabama Legislature since Reconstruction.

Retired Army Sgt. Kenneth Paschal was elected last year to fill a special election legislative seat in suburban Shelby County, becoming the only Black Republican in the Alabama Legislature. Mr. Paschal served 21 years in the U.S. Army, and is a past commander of the American Legion and a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Shelby county.

Kenneth Paschal is a member of the Shelby County Republican Executive Committee, and is also the Alabama state GOP Minority Outreach Coordinator. Mr. Paschal is now running for a full term for his seat this year for House District 73 in Alabama. Learn more about Kenneth Paschal and his re-election  campaign at
