The NSRTC Celebrates Black History Month

The North Salem Republican Town Committee honors Black History month. We could not think of a better person today to honor than the first black woman elected to statewide office in Virginia’s history, Winsome Sears.  Virginia, which was once the Capitol of the Confederacy, now has Winsome Sears as 2nd in command as it’s new Lieutenant Governor; she is also the first woman to hold that position. Winsome proudly served in our military as a Marine, while still being a legal immigrant from Jamaica.  She has a lot of firsts. Twenty years ago, she became the first Black Republican woman to be elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, the first female veteran, and first legal immigrant to win that seat.
