The North Salem Republican Town Committee honors Black History month. Senator Timothy Scott was the first black Senator elected to the United States Senate from a southern state since Reconstruction. Senator Scott grew up poor in South Carolina in a single parent household with less than stellar grades when he started high school. But with a mother who fiercely believed in him, and a mentor who explained to him about the wisdom of conservative principles, his determination propelled him to success. He was first elected to the Charleston County Council, then the South Carolina House of Representatives, the United States House of Representatives, and finally the United States Senate. Senator Scott is currently the most senior black Senator in the Senate. See his Senate page below for his biography, and his current lead on creating opportunities for every American family. https://www.scott.senate.gov/
