New York State Senator Pete Harckham visited North Salem High School Wednesday to officially congratulate the varsity field hockey team on their Class C Section 1 championship title.
In a ceremony at the North Salem High School gym attended by school district administrators, families and community members, Harckham presented Senate Resolution 2493 to coaches Frohman and Watson and issued certifications to each team member on behalf of the Senate office.
North Salem athletic director Denise Kiernan kicked off the ceremony by acknowledging the “grit, determination and perseverance” the girls displayed throughout the 2021 season. “North Salem is so proud of you,” Kiernan said.
Coach Frohman reminded community members, who attended both in person and via livestream, that the team’s sectional title was the fourth in North Salem field hockey history and the regional title was just the second in school history.
“This fantastic team was special,” Frohman said, noting the creative ways the girls found to still practice when facilities were closed during the pandemic, and the amount of hours they put into training.
“They gave pure heart and soul every day,” Frohman added.
