Daniel’s on June, a new all-day cafe, set to open in North Salem
“The ambience is so relaxing that people are just not going to want to leave.”
That’s the vibe Daniel Pereira is going for with Daniel’s on June, the new cafe he’s readying to open on June Road in North Salem. Daniel’s on June will offer unique breakfasts and hot and cold lunch along with the coffee and signature sweets that Pereira has come to be known for at his original North Salem business, The Market at Union Hall.
Daniel’s on June represents a new phase of business growth for Pereira, who continues to co-own The Market with Jeffery Albanesi.
“I have this creative spirit in me. I’m always thinking about what next,” Pereira said. “What else can I do to not only make my life more gratifying but to enhance people’s experience as well?”
At Daniel’s on June, Pereira has room to grow as a food purveyor while responding to the changing meal-time needs and preferences of busy families. “I needed to have a space with a kitchen so that I could grow the food business,” he said. “I find that people don’t want to cook anymore. If you have a business where you have good, healthy food, where people can just go to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner for their families, that is a thing now.”
Daniel’s on June is centrally located in North Salem at 60 June Road – better known among locals as the shopping center at the 4-way stop sign, or the space formerly known as Salem Pizza. The pizzeria closed last winter after about seven years in business.
With a little over 3,000 square feet of space, Daniel’s on June comfortably houses a commercial kitchen space as well as a spacious sit-down area for guests. Customers will order at the counter before taking their food to go or grabbing a table in the renovated interior.
To make the place “Daniel’s,” Pereira changed the floors, paint, lighting and counters, installed new bathrooms and sourced the best available coffee machine.
Pereira is looking forward to cultivating a loyal breakfast crowd. “We’re creating a really interesting, unique breakfast menu,” he said. A high-end coffee station will churn out handcrafted coffee drinks all day long.
For lunch, customers can choose from a grab and go cooler similar to the one at The Market, or order hot or cold sandwiches, wraps and burgers from the kitchen.
And don’t forget Daniel’s favorite–dessert. “We will definitely have desserts,” Pereira said. “We will have four different cakes, but different flavors from what you can get at The Market. We’ll be bringing in pies and cookies, too.”
To staff the new business, Pereira has been busy hiring people who can embody the sense of hospitality that have come to define his personal brand–warm, friendly and approachable. “I’m confident we’ll be able to build a really nice team,” Pereira said.
Daniel’s on June is scheduled to open in May. Hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. You can follow the business on Instagram at instagram.com/daniels_on_june
