The best summer day camps in Northern Westchester

The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer, which means that summer is just around the corner. Tradition dictates that swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing, games and sports, and water balloon fights all be a part of the summertime fun. At traditional day camps, all of these activities are offered and more. And with registration already open, now is the time to sign up your child to participate. To help you compare and contrast the different camps around our area, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorites.

North Salem Day Camp at Mountain Lakes

How much more local can a summer camp be? In the heart of North Salem, North Salem Day Camp at Mountain Lakes is a community favorite for summertime fun. Also offering classic summer camp activities, children at Mountain Lakes are sure to enjoy spending the day outside at the on site pool, archery course, and boating on the lake.

Camp runs from June 27 to August 5, from 8:35 AM to 3:15 PM each day. Tuition for a two-week session is $635. Discounted tuition for North Salem residents is $565.

Kiwi Country Day Camp

Located in Carmel, Kiwi Country Day Camp has something for everyone. Here, your child will enjoy classic summer camp activities like swimming, canoeing, and arts and crafts.

Camp runs from June 27 through August 19, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. Extended hours are available. Tuition for eight weeks is $6,699 with smaller packages available.

Camp Combe Summer Day Camp

A little farther away in Peekskill is Camp Combe Summer Day Camp, another great option if your child is seeking that traditional summer camp experience. This one-hundred acre camp is definitely large enough for your child to enjoy activities like hiking, archery, and even ziplining.

Camp runs from June 27 through August 26, from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM each day. Extended hours are available. There are two tiers for payment: Tier 1 is a subsidized $475 per one-week session that only covers basic costs. Tier 2 is $600 per one-week session that covers basic costs, plus salaries, equipment, and other supplies. The website encourages families to pay for Tier 2 if eligible, but all children will get the same camp experience regardless of payment tier.

Summer Trails Day Camp

Located in Mahopac, New York, Summer Trails Day Camp is another traditional summer day camp with a mission to “empower children.” At this camp, your child will experience that classic summer camp fun while also learning to be independent and self-learners. There is also a baseball-focused camp available.

Camp runs from June 27 through August 18, from 9:00 AM to 3:15 PM each day. Extended hours are available. The entire eight-week session costs $6375 for a standard package.

Adventure Day Camp (Ridgefield Rec Center)

Located in Ridgefield, Connecticut, the Adventure Day Camp is sure to provide your child with a fun summertime experience filled with swimming, playing games, and making arts and crafts. Outdoor-based, this camp takes advantage of local trails, ponds, and outside areas and uses the actual recreation center for heat breaks or rainy days.

Camp runs from June 27 through August 12, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. A one-week session is $325 with a discount of $295 for center members.

Green Chimneys

With locations in both Carmel and Brewster, Green Chimneys has two great camp options for your child this summer. In Carmel is the Clearpool Camp, which offers a 3.5 acre lake with a 30-foot waterfront perfect for swimming and boating. In Brewster is the Hillside camp, which is home to the Green Chimneys Farm and Wildlife center. This camp is perfect for kids who enjoy learning about animals. An indoor pool allows for swimming, rain or shine.

Camp runs from June 27 through August 26, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM each day. A three-week session at Clearpool is $910. A nine-week session at Hillside is $2750.

Camp Saw Mill

Perfect for young kids who want a fun-filled day, Camp Saw Mill is a great choice for those in Mount Kisco. Advertising dress up parades, full-sized tennis courts and two separate age-based playgrounds, your child is sure to enjoy all the activities this camp is jam-packed with. An outdoor pool is reserved just for campers with assisted swim instruction daily.

Camp runs from June 13 through August 19, from 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM for a half-day and 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM for a full day. Tuition for five full days is $650.00. Tuition for five half days is $525.00. Combination full and half days are available. Discounts for Saw Mill Club members are available.
