The Town of North Salem is reminding residents to license their dogs. New York State requires that all dogs over four months old be licensed. Licenses for North Salem residents’ dogs can be obtained through the town clerk’s office.

To obtain or renew a license, residents must complete a dog license form, provide a current certificate of rabies vaccination and proof of neuter. Fees are $11 per neutered dog and $23 per unneutered dog. Senior citizens age 65 and older are exempt from dog license fees. There are no fees for service dogs.

North Salem town code allows for each property owner to own up to three dogs. Residents who wish to own additional dogs must apply for a special permit through the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Residents who do not obtain a license for their dog may be subject to a fine of $50 for a first violation and $100 for a second violation.

Residents seeking to obtain or renew a dog license can mail in the required paperwork and fee to the town clerk or stop by to complete the process in person. The town clerk’s office is located at 266 Titicus Road, North Salem. The clerk can be reached by phone at (914) 669-5577.
