New York State burn ban in effect through mid-May
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reminds landowners that there is a burn ban in effect through May 14. The ban, which commenced March 16, is in place due to the increased risk for wildfires.
The spring burn ban was first implemented in 2009. Since then, the number of wildfires has decreased by more than 40%, according to the DEC. The department maintains an online fire danger map that is updated weekly. The fire danger level for the Hudson Valley as of March 25 is low.
