Croton Falls Fire Department responds to early morning fire at New York Sports Clubs in Carmel
The Croton Falls Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Friday morning at the New York Sports Clubs’ Carmel location. A small fire had broken out in the women’s locker room.
As Croton Falls Fire members arrived, they found that the sprinkler system had extinguished the fire. Crews checked the ceiling and surrounding areas for fire extension before returning to North Salem.
"This call is a good example of a sprinkler system acting as designed and expected: the fire was contained and extinguished before it could spread and cause more damage to the building or endanger occupants," said Sean Partenio, Croton Falls Fire Department chief. Croton Falls units were released by the Carmel Fire Department incident commander at 6:30 a.m.
An employee at the New York Sports Club’s Somers location said Carmel members are welcome to use the Somers location today as the Carmel facility is temporarily closed.
A spokesperson for New York Sports Club could not immediately be reached for comment.
