The North Salem High School boys varsity basketball season came to a close Saturday afternoon when the Tigers lost to Hastings High School in the Class B quarterfinals.
The Hastings Yellow Jackets got out to an early lead with a swarming defense and quick baskets in transition on their home court. The Tigers struggled to get into an offensive rhythm and found themselves down by 33 points at half-time, when Hastings led 54-21. The final score was 82-52, Hastings.
For the Yellow Jackets, Josh Thigpen led all scorers with 26 pts and Robert Kennedy added 22 pts in the winning effort. Roger Squire paced the Tigers with 25 pts; Ryan Baer contributed 9 pts in their final games in a North Salem uniform.
North Salem had been ranked 11th out of 17 teams heading into the playoffs. The Tigers beat Yonkers’ Palisades Prep 58-45 in the first round of play, February 19.
“North Salem Seniors, thanks for the years and effort throughout,” head coach Chris Regan wrote on Twitter following Saturday’s game.
