The North Salem Recreation Department today announced that registration for summer 2022 Day Camp at Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem will open on March 15. Non-resident registration will open at 9:00 a.m. on March 16. The day camp program accepts campers entering Pre-K 4 through 7th grade. Counselor-in-training programs are available for children aged 13 or 14 years old.
Day camp will run for six weeks beginning Monday, June 27 and ending Friday, August 5. Camp activities include hands-on projects, science and discovery programs, safety and environmental projects, sports and more. Campers in 4th grade and up can participate in archery lessons and spend time on the lake in one of the camp’s canoes, kayaks, rowboats or paddleboats. Special activities for all campers include Olympic Games Day, Carnival Day, pony rides, reptile and animal exhibits and DJ dance parties.
Families can choose from three two-week sessions. Campers will be bused to and from camp from Pequenakonck Elementary in North Salem. Transportation by bus is mandatory and is included in the tuition price. Drop-off and pickup times are approximately 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The Recreation Department is also accepting applications for Counselors-in-Training (CIT) and staff members. CITs must be 13 or 14 years old (12-year-olds entering 8th grade in fall 2022 will also be considered). Applications for CIT positions will be accepted beginning March 15.
To apply as a staff member, individuals must be 15 years of age by August 5, 2022, have experience working with children and possess the desire to work in an outdoor setting with children. Teachers, lifeguards, outdoor enthusiasts, athletes and those with certificates or experience in related fields are encouraged to apply. High school or college students considering a career working with children are also highly encouraged to apply. Staff should be available for the entire camp season.
The Recreation Department cautioned that there will be a very limited amount of 15-year-old junior counselor positions available.
