On Sunday evening, North Salem High School seniors Thomas Eberhardt and Jonathan Graham were honored at Senior Night during the Brewster-Yorktown-Somers-North Salem (BYSNS) varsity hockey game vs. John Jay Cross River at the Brewster Ice Arena.
“This game is the culmination of months and even years of practice and hard work for all of the seniors in attendance and a showcase of the support of the parents, coaches and entire school communities behind them,” coaches John Veteri, Joe Bonitatibus and R.J. Aune wrote in the night’s program book for spectators.
There are 27 players on the team, many of whom have been playing ice hockey together since early elementary school. North Salem’s Eberhardt began skating at 5 years old, and grew up playing hockey with many of the members of “The Herd,” as the multi-school team is known in the local hockey community. Graham, also from North Salem, started playing hockey at age 8, and grew up participating in travel hockey, including for the Bedford Bears and New York Apple Core, a college development team on which he still plays.
Graham scored the lone goal for The Herd in Sunday night’s game, a power play goal with 8:35 left to play in the third period. His goal tied the game 1-1. John Jay Cross River responded, adding three more goals to win the game 4-1.
The Herd returns to the ice this Friday night at 6:15 p.m., when they face Horace Greeley at the Brewster Ice Arena.
