It’s the home stretch; the last weekend before Christmas. Some people will be squeezing in their last minute holiday shopping. Others will be planning family festivities in the hopes of making lasting holiday memories. And, there are also a few fun happenings that–blissfully–have nothing to do with the holiday madness. From art in Katonah to gin in Croton Falls, Santa in Croton Falls and in Danbury, there’s plenty of December fun and festiveness to be had this weekend.

Get artsy at the Katonah Museum of Art
The Katonah Museum of Art is hosting “Artful Families,” a themed morning full of artistic picture books, gallery activities and art projects geared for families with children age 2 -5. Registration is recommended.

Gin up a good time at Folkways Wines

Croton Falls’ newest bottle shop has teamed up with local realtor Jessica Broomhead to host a gin tasting Friday night. The tasting will feature gins locally made here in New York. Lite bites will be served.

Delight in a parade of lights in Somers
The Somers Lions Club is hosting “Illuminate Somers,” a free, festive family activity that recognizes judges homes that are decorated for the holidays in categories including “brightest illumination,” and “best figurines & inflatables.” The parade starts at Reis Park in timed increments beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Go caroling with the family, and the Lewisboro Land Trust

The Lewisboro Land Trust invites families to join them at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation for a family hike and caroling Saturday afternoon. Participants will go on a short one-mile hike before warming up by a bonfire and singing holiday favorites.

Skate with Santa at the Danbury Ice Arena
Come take a photo with Santa and then stick around for the Danbury Hat Tricks hockey game. All kids 12 and under get free admission are a free 10-credit arcade card.

Shop the boutique at Railyard Arts
Croton Falls’ Railyard Arts Studio is hosting a holiday boutique this Saturday and Sunday, featuring local, artisan and handmade crafts and gift items. Stop by for a unique and locally made gift you won’t find at a big box retailer.

Spot Santa with the Croton Falls Fire Department
The Croton Falls Fire Department will bring Santa on a tour of North Salem this Sunday. The Candy Cane Run is a beloved tradition in town, especially among North Salem’s youngest residents. Be sure to wave to Santa and his helpers – the CFFD – as they pass out candy canes along their route.
