Lumagica, the experiential holiday light show that has transformed unique places all across Europe into glittering wonderlands, has landed right here in Westchester. Lumagica is a dreamy, illuminated walk-through experience that marries light with place. At Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard in North Salem, Lumagica has transformed the popular Westchester farm’s apple-scented trails into a discovery of glowy, delightful surprises.
Lumagica has installed light parks in public spaces across Germany, Austria, Denmark, Japan and Great Britain. Now, the magic is stateside with an installation at Harvest Moon, offering a new and unique holiday tradition for families in Westchester and Putnam counties.
“Anyone who has visited us in our orchard is used to a bright, blue sky sunny day,” said Kristina Jahaly, Harvest Moon general manager. This is completely different. It’s a nighttime combination of lights dripping from the trees, sculptures and woodland animals. It’s a magical experience.”
At a preview event on Saturday, November 20, Lumagica drew people of all ages to the experience. The display, which includes over half a million LED lights and winds from the base of the orchard up to a stone patio at the farm’s highest point, enchants everyone from babies strapped snugly to the chests of their parents to senior citizens and everyone in between.
Once guests reach the stone patio, they’re greeted by festive holiday music and cheerful holiday displays perfect for family photos. Drinks are available for purchase, including hot cider, mulled wine, coffee and hot cocoa (regular or spiked). On the return trip down the hill, more light sculptures and glowy woodland animals peek out from amid the apple trees. The grand finale is a jaw-dropping light tunnel at the base of the farm.
“It’s a real first-of-its kind experience,” Jahaly said. “It’s something for families to do together to experience a little bit of magic around the holidays.”
After completing the experience, guests are welcome to linger with food and beverages for purchase at Harvest Moon’s picnic table area. Several food trucks dot the area, along with the farm’s signature freshly made cider donuts, wood-fired pizza and Hardscrabble Cider, available on tap.
From start to finish, Lumagica takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete. Tickets are $31 for adults and $28 for children ages 3 - 12. Kids 2 and under are free. Lumagica will open to the public Friday, November 26 and then run every weekend until December 17 and daily from December 17 through December 23. Click here to purchase tickets.
