Westchester Power program to pause until March 2022 in order to source new renewable energy supplier

Westchester Power, a community-based bulk energy purchasing program run by Sustainable Westchester, announced that it will pause its program beginning December 1 when its current contract with  Eligo Energy ends. Residents will be switched back to standard electric supply while Sustainable Westchester embarks on a competitive bidding process to secure a new renewable energy provider. According to Sustainable Westchester, 28 of 45 Westchester municipalities have selected the Westchester Power program as the default supplier for their residents and small businesses.

Sustainable Westchester provided the following information to local residents regarding the change:

  • The current Westchester Power electricity contract (supplied by Eligo Energy) will end by November 30, 2021.
  • With the approval of your municipal leadership, in order to secure the best economic value for renewable energy in the current volatile energy market, we will be initiating a competitive bidding process.
  • We anticipate reinstating the Westchester Power program in March 2022.
  • There will be a brief switch in your enrollment. You will be switched back to the standard NYSEG electricity supply for the intervening months starting after your last meter read before November 30th 2021.
  • You will receive (or may have received) a notice in the mail (from NYSEG) alerting you to this switch.
  • In January 2022, you will receive a notification letter from the Westchester Power program with the details regarding your re-enrollment to the 100% renewable supply (to start in March 2022).
  • If you are a Community Solar subscriber through Sustainable Westchester, that subscription will not be affected by this pause in the Westchester Power Community Energy Program. You will continue to receive that monthly solar credit on your bill.
