The Town of North Salem is inviting residents to an information session hosted by Sustainable Westchester to learn more about the organization’s renewable energy program. The Town currently contracts with Sustainable Westchester through a bulk purchasing program to provide clean, renewable energy at a fixed rate.

North Salem’s existing 18-month contract with Sustainable Westchester will expire November 30. Town leaders are considering a new contract that, if passed, would go into effect December 1. The Town participates along with the neighboring communities of Bedford, Lewisboro, Pound Ridge and Somers.

In the new contract, Sustainable Westchester will only be able to offer 50% renewable energy to the Town. The existing contract provides 100% renewable energy. A representative from Sustainable Westchester explained to the North Salem Town Board last week that demand has outpaced supply as more communities have opted into providing renewable energy.

An information session will take place Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library. All residents are welcome to attend, either in person or via Zoom.
