Each year, Memorial Day weekend gives us a moment to honor America's military men and women who lost their lives in service to their country. It's also a transitional weekend, as it signifies the start of the summer season --a season that's a little more relaxed, a lot more outdoors, and filled with opportunities to spend time with family and friends.
In our area, pizza nights are back at Harvest Moon, Hayfields is continuing its Saturday night after hours family-friendly event and the farmer's market returns to Muscoot Farm.
On Memorial Day, North Salem, Brewster and South Salem are all hosting Memorial Day activities, from parades and ceremonies to 5K runs and community barbecues. Read on for our top picks.

Join a fun and informal group of painters and artists, beginners and experienced, on Friday mornings at the library at 10:30 to work together. There is no instruction and you can draw, paint or work in any medium you choose. You must bring your own materials.

The Town of North Salem will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. The parade route will proceed from Route 116 and 22 to the grounds of the Westchester Exceptional Children's School. Hot dogs and refreshments will be served at the Purdys ball field immediately after the parade.
