The North Salem Recreation Department is hosting a free pickleball class for adults on Monday, June 5 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Joe Bohrdrum Field Park in North Salem. The session will be led by The Pickleball Barn, which operates out of The Hardscrabble Club in Brewster. The one-hour session will teach the basics of the game.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong and is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. The game can be played indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.

More than 36.5 million people played pickleball from August 2021 to August 2022, according to a January 2023 report from the Association of Pickleball Professionals. During that time, 14% of Americans played at least once and 8.5 million people played 8 times or more.

The June 5 clinic in North Salem is open to adults ages 18 and up. There are 20 spaces available for the free session. For registration information, click here.
