Weekend car crash at Croton Falls train station shuts down southbound track

A vehicle operated by a 28-year-old Carmel woman crashed into the tracks at the Croton Falls train station shortly after 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, causing a temporary shutdown of the southbound track.

“The driver must have thought the car was in reverse, but instead it was in drive,” said North Salem Police Chief Thomas Howley. “The car knocked down the fence between the tracks and the parking lot,” he added.

Metro-North Railroad was notified to shut down the southbound track until the vehicle and the fence were secured.

Members of the Croton Falls Fire Department and the North Salem Police Department responded to the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no injuries to the driver or nearby pedestrians. The driver was ticketed for unlicensed operation and the vehicle was towed.
