North Salem HS varsity girls basketball season ends in first round of Class B sectional playoffs

The North Salem High School varsity girls basketball team’s season ended Saturday when they lost in a dramatic double overtime to Bronxville in the first round of Section I Class B playoffs. The final score was 48-42.

The Tigers faced the Broncos on the road in what North Salem head coach Matt Mackenzie described as an ‘incredible’ game. “Bronxville was one of the hottest teams in Section 1, and the girls gave them everything they could handle,” Mackenzie said.

Junior Sarafina DiPaola led scoring for North Salem with 16 points; senior Emma Zoubok added 12. Saturday was the last high school game for seniors Zoubok, Dana Connolly and Carolyne Barrella.

“Although it wasn’t the outcome we had hope for, the fight the girls showed summed up how hard they worked all season long. The girls should be very proud of themselves for all they’ve accomplished this year,” Mackenzie said. “It was an honor to work with them and watch them grow as athletes and more importantly people throughout the season.”

Mackenzie gave special mention to the team’s three seniors. “Although they will be missed next year, they’ve helped mold the program for future success.”
