Collaboration is key for Roberta “Bobbie” Ball and Manny DeMagistris. The duo are not only partners in life but also in BB Abode, a home furnishing boutique and interior design business located in North Salem’s historic Union Hall that was built in 1849.

“Our taste is similar. We enjoy every minute of our 24 hours a day together. We’re very fortunate to be doing what we love to do and meeting interesting people along the way,” said Ball, the “BB” in the shop’s name.

BB Abode features a mix of old and new, including stylish furniture for every room of the home, such as custom sofas, tables, and chairs; an assortment of home accessories, such as clocks, vases, mirrors, statuary, and equestrian-themed items; carpets; lighting; fine artwork; and captivating antiques and reproductions. It also has a spacious bedding department.

The shop’s inventory is constantly evolving, offering shoppers a new experience every time. “Our most heard comment is ‘I want my home to look like this.’ It’s a very warm, cozy feeling with a mixture of modern, traditional, and eclectic styles in a charming space,” said Ball. “Customers also love our eclectic musical vibe -- a mix of modern, like Lord Huron and Lizzo with British invasion and Chet Atkins.” DeMagistris is a musician who was signed to CBS records in the 80s. He can often be found strumming his guitar in the shop.

BB Abode offers complete in-home interior design services, ranging from single rooms to complete home renovations, including selecting furnishings, carpeting, window treatments, and custom upholstery for sectionals and chairs that are made in the USA by a family-run company. In addition, they offer home staging services.

Both Ball and DeMagistris have extensive experience in the design industry. Ball is an interior designer in both New York and Connecticut; DeMagistris is a former award-winning creative director for major TV commercials. In 2007, the pair ventured into the retail business, opening their first boutique in Darien, Connecticut and then expanded into North Salem in 2010. “I’ve traveled all over the U.S. and always return feeling we have something very special in this town. An occasional celebrity visit also makes for good conversation,” Ball said.

Ball and DeMagistris share a keen eye for design, describing it as their own unique personalized approach to finding décor that defines a home, with Ball having an enthusiastic energy that inspires homeowners to do an entire room or home change. “We strive to create a beautiful space that is right for the homeowner’s lifestyle.”

The couple offered two ways homeowners can easily add pizzazz to their home - change a wall color and add a light fixture. The main trends the duo is seeing include edited comfort and unpretentious luxury items, such as unique stone tables, bedding that can change a bedroom into a 5-star hotel experience, and designing a room around a sumptuous sectional sofa covered in high-performance fabric that’s meant to be lived in and enjoyed.

Ball and DeMagistris say what differentiates their business is a commitment to personalized service. “When you work with BB Abode you’re working with the two owners,” said Ball. “We make sure all our clients’ needs are fulfilled.”
