A theft that originated at the Home Depot store in Southeast Friday morning led to a vehicle chase culminating in an arrest in Purdys.

At approximately 10:19 a.m. on Friday, September 30, the New York State Troopers were dispatched to Home Depot store #1271 in Southeast for a report of a larceny. While en route, Troopers observed a vehicle matching the description provided to Putnam 911 traveling on I-84 at a high rate of speed. The Troopers attempted a traffic stop but the operator failed to comply. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Omar H. Abulteen of Yonkers, fled to I-684 and then Hardscrabble Road before exiting the vehicle and taking off on foot. Abulteen was taken into custody a short time later near the Westchester School in Purdys.

Abulteen was arrested for petit larceny–an investigation discovered he had stolen a Milwaukee power tool–fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle 3rd, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration, all class A misdemeanors.

Abulteen was issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Southeast Court on 10/18/22 at 1:00 p.m.
