The Croton Falls Fire Department hosted a ceremony Sunday to mark the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The ceremony, which was held at the Titicus Road firehouse, was attended by North Salem town leaders, including Town Supervisor Warren Lucas, North Salem’s first responders and town residents.
In a Facebook post Friday, Lucas wrote, “while we remember this date, 9-11, as an act of terrorism and for the lives lost, we also need to remember and give our respect to those who gave their lives trying to help others. People who were not there when the planes struck but entered the building nonetheless to help save lives. That respect should bleed into our current emergency services people; our police, firefighters and ambulance EMT's who continue to run into situations where people are in danger.”
Lucas also noted New York Fire Department Lieutenant Vincent Halloran, a North Salem resident who died on 9/11 while trying to rescue others.
