North Salem Recreation Department announces fall programs


The Town of North Salem Recreation Department announced new fall programs for town residents, including youth sports and activities and a flu shot clinic for seniors.

For North Salem youth, the Town is offering ice skating lessons at the Brewster Ice Arena, a “Little Sprouts Nature Group” for preschoolers at North Salem Open Land Foundation preserves, and preschool and kindergarten sports programming through US Sports Institute.

For seniors, the Town will host a free flu shot clinic for adults 55+ at the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corp. building Thursday, Sep. 22 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Program details:

Learn to Skate

Half-hour sessions at the Brewster Ice Arena teach children the fundamentals of ice skating. Fees include a public skate before each lesson

  • For children 4 - 12
  • Fridays 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. or Sundays 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • 7-week session beginning Sep. 9 (Friday) or Sep. 11 (Sun)
  • $185 per session

Little Sprouts Nature Group

Led by North Salem resident Lauren Rankel, this monthly get together is designed to introduce the youngest members of our community, along with their grownup, to the natural world. Children will learn yoga poses, how to read trail markers, and the science of leaves.

  • For children 2.5 - 5 years old (with caregivers)
  • 3 sessions: Friday, Aug. 26, Friday, Sep. 23 and Friday, Oct. 28
  • Free (registration required)

US Sports Institute Preschool & Kindergarten Sports

These weekly sessions, held at Joe Bohrdrum Park in North Salem, are designed to introduce young children to a variety of sports in a safe and structured environment. Programs are led by professional coaches who lead participants through a series of games and activities.

  • Parent & Me multi-sports - Mondays 2:30 p.m. - 3:20 p.m.
  • Ages 3- 4 multi-sports - Mondays 3:30 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.
  • Ages 5-6 multi-sports - Mondays 4:30 p.m. - 5:20 p.m.
  • $170 for 8 weeks beginning Sep. 12

Flu Shot Clinic

Regular and high dose flu vaccines will be available to residents 55 and older for the 2022 - 2023 flu season. The clinic is sponsored by Northern Westchester Hospital.
