A major construction project on Route 121 in North Salem has been delayed. Construction crews had planned a complete shutdown of the roadway in both directions immediately following the July 4th holiday but the start date has been pushed back until local utility companies can install a pole.

"They have done some minor work at the culvert location neat Pietsch Gardens Coop to get ready for NYSE&G, Verizon and Cablevision to place a new pole and move their wires over to it," North Salem Town Supervisor posted on the town Facebook page at the beginning of the month. At the time, Lucas alerted residents that the pole installation was expected to happen within a week.

Nearly two weeks since that post, the pole has yet to be installed. "They do not have a date yet," Lucas wrote in an email to the North Salem Post. Road closure for the culvert work cannot happen until the pole work is complete.

Route 121 will remain open for travel next week.
