Lewisboro Land Trust: Free Fern Weekend

Free Fern Weekend - Saturday, September 30th and Sunday, October 1st, 10am-12pm at Old Field Preserve

Come to the Old Field Meditation Garden on Sept. 30/Oct. 1 and dig up some of our free gorgeous Ostrich ferns for your own property.

Every two years, we need to thin out our fern beds because the ferns grow so profusely. These are beautiful healthy ferns and they will thrive in your garden. In addition, our fern beds will thrive also because they are no longer crowded. So it's a win/win — and we thank you for helping!

There will be a kickoff educational component on Saturday at 10am led by LLT's education specialist, Deanna Novak, but feel free to come anytime between 10am -12pm on either or both days. Bring clippers to cut the fronds down and a shovel to dig up the roots. Bring a bucket or plastic trash bag to transport the plants home. We have so many, you can probably take as many as you want. And please tell your family, friends and neighbors!

Sturdy shoes, pants, and gloves are recommended. Refreshments will be served. Steady rain will reschedule. Advance registration is appreciated so we can plan for refreshments and communicate any changes with you, but is not required.

The entrance to Old Field Preserve is on the East side of Mead Street (at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road) in Waccabuc. There's plenty of parking in the preserve and on the side of the preserve driveway.
